..i thought about it this afternoon & I can't remember when I last found a soda.. I find bottles of water often enough, but cans or bottles of soda (or beer) are rare finds for me.. well, DiscoLover82, I'm glad you're mining that area, your gig there sounds so similar to my gig here.. by the way, I noticed this when I was poring over pictures today.. the last wild bill I wrangled- prior to last night- was posted 8/7: compare those pix. I picked the 8/7 dollar and last night's dollar from the same spot.

I was stunned to find something besides a smashed bottle cap, although I'm not sure that it was worth the ergs of energy to bend over, pick it up, and bring it home.

Hondo, smashed bottle caps are one of the three top things that I see on the pavement that can still fool my eye into seeing 'coin'. washers and lithium batteries (especially the 2036) are the others, but bottle caps are the worst. they make me a little crabby.

Yes he was generous to give this amount, thinking myself it was his weekly pay from work.

Found this $1 on the streets of Boston a few days ago. Paper is nice, but I'd rather found the coin equivalent in silver. Anyone else agree with me on that?

Mr. Pink - yes, bottle caps annoy me too! As a maintenance worker this summer, I also grew tired of the little gray metal discs that are about the same size as nickels or quarters and always fooled me at first glance.
Spence - yes, I would much rather find a silver dollar or four silver quarters as opposed to a dollar bill - you're not alone there! I'll still take paper though - money is money!
As for my own recent scores - you can tell all the rich college kids are back, as I exceeded $3 on three separate days this past week. The unusually high concentration of pennies that's been going on all summer is still ongoing - I found 18 yesterday alone! So yeah, my jar is filling up nicely again, but the high ratio of one-cent pieces to everything else might end up limiting the dollar amount I'm able to fit in there. This past weekend was rough, at only 83 cents in total between the two days (though that's also to be expected for some reason; other people must not use vending machines on campus on the weekends).
My daily totals don't count foreign coins or coins I pull out of circulation such as wheat cents. Those are hot again - after last Monday on which I found TWO, I've racked up two more since then. A 1940 on the floor at a grocery store on Wednesday, and a 1944-D on the street yesterday near a bar frequented by underage students and a known homeless encampment.
