good pickins, helder! great or small, it all adds up.

speaking of that, last night I picked $1.65 in well-scattered change... $6.23 for the week, $24.96 for the month so far, $3.08 for the new cycle. sigh... the long, slow crawl to $300, or whatever.

two pictures from last night... I picked a nickel & quarter from publix' parking lot:

and then a few minutes later I picked another quarter in an adjacent parking lot:

those gleaming disks are really easy to see. I it.

i took a picture of this the other night and forgot about it, and I just now saw it again..

Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money

i was riding along down 14th street and was moving past several empty parking spaces when I spotted a nickel standing up on it's edge & leaning against the curb.. most of the time the coins I pick up are lying down flat...

i'll take it, Hondo! i'll throw those two points into the cauldron with everything else at the end of the cycle. (no actual horseshoes will be harmed during this process)

I'm on a 4-night $1+ streak ($1.43, $1.65, $1.60, $1.30), hoping it continues tonight.

the streak is now 5 straight nights of $1+

tonight I picked $1.63 in well-scattered change, and another bottle of water, and five cans of soda.

a soda machine's dispenser port was jammed with cans, one can in particular was tightly lodged between the other cans and the edge of the metal flap that covers the dispenser chute. once I wiggled the one jammed can free I was then able to easily liberate the rest. I found the bottle of water at a nearby ice machine.

the money this month has been okay, but it's been quite a month for chips & drinks.

Water and chips are great! Meh on the soda, but if you drink it good for you!
Was it Little Debbies you had a run on a while back, or some other equally repulsive abomination?
Chips, please!

Good finds across the board! Sorry I haven't been posting much lately, academic responsibilities have been intense, leaving less time for pickin' and even less time for postin'. Quantity of finds has been reduced lately as a general rule, in part due to fewer people being on campus over the Thanksgiving holiday (even I was gone Wednesday night through Saturday afternoon, and I found only about a dollar that entire time). With that being said, October and November still did produce some notable good finds.

Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money
The picture doesn't really do it justice, but in-hand one can see it is a 1917-D Wheat cent. Finding a teens Wheat cent is one thing. Finding a teens Wheat cent with a mintmark is another! It was just lying there on the sidewalk with two friends: a zincoln and a dime, and after 106 years, in which time it got to be worn virtually slick, it now gets a chance to rest in my collection.

Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money
My biggest paper money found was on a Monday afternoon when I was walking down a busy street and saw a dollar bill at a bus stop. I got inside and saw it had some more friends: two more ones and a five! The amount I found in terms of coins that day was rather lackluster, but eight dollars in paper is enough to buy lunch right there!

Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money
I couldn't believe my eyes the following Monday morning when I was at the same spot I found the mega-jackpot in May and saw a dime in the change slot at the coffee vending machine...grabbed it and saw A MERC DIME!

Either it was in a bank roll, or someone tried using it and it was rejected. Either way, it had to have been pilfered from somebody's collection, as there's no way it could have survived 80 years in circulation and remained in that good of condition. Now that find made my day for sure! It was the second silver dime I've found, barely a month after the first which is the craziest thing!

Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money
Twin wheaties found, among nearly a dollar of regular modern stuff as well, on a Sunday just before noon at my one loyal local Coinstar. It's a known thing that a certain quantity of 1941 cents are overweight and thus often rejected, but these weighed in at 3.00 and 3.11 so I'm not sure what gives. Either way, fun finds nonetheless.

Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money
Slightly scuffed-up 1956-D wheatie found on the sidewalk in broad daylight on a Wednesday morning.

My September and October totals were both in the $47 range for coins - but October also had the $8 in bills shown above. November 1 I also found a $1 bill as well as $3.33 in coins: a respectable daily total.

Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money
My coin jar as of Friday evening, November 17. I went to my bank on Friday, November 24 to dump my coins, the first time since August 31, and the jar was FULL - couldn't fit another penny or dime in there if I tried. The total came out to $95.17 more for me in my savings account - over a dollar a day, even without the quarters I used for laundry!

I have more finds from last night that dwarf anything I posted here, but I have to get the pictures off my cellphone first, so stay tuned.
