@briarmentrout -

Congrats on the find. Your photos add a nice chocolate hue to the coin - makes me miss the old days. FWIW: I like the obverse (classic!) but the reverse feels so flat. I get the symbolism, but it feels under-designed. Anyway, congrats again.

Today, I attended the launch of the Lowell National Historical Park quarter in Lowell, Massachusetts. I bought two rolls-one to keep for myself and the other to open and spend. I recorded a video of the coin pour below.

Interestingly, even though the coin was launched in Massachusetts, the two rolls I received were 2019-Ds, rather than 2019-Ps.

Thanks for the video. Looks like there was a big crowd there. Did they have any other coins for sale or just the quarters...?

@jeffbuckes:

Attendees could buy rolls of the quarters or a two-coin P&D set that was packaged and sold by a third party for about $6.00. I did not buy the set as I came for the rolls.

Thanks again for the video and info. I've never been to a coin release but now I feel like I have.

BTW: I would've skipped the two-coin set as well - I don't like third-party packaging - but I would have liked a few quarter rolls for myself!

What is the point of the "coin pour"?

Free quarters for those under 18. Wasn't this a school day? How many under 18 would be there?

The coin launch was held during school hours, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Lots of nearby schools had field trips to the ceremony, and perhaps some parents took their children out of school just for this ceremony. This was the case with other coin launch ceremonies I've attended (Franklin Pierce $1 coin, 2011 Native American $1 coin, New Hampshire National Park Quarter, and Rhode Island National Park Quarter).

Also, I think the coin pour is to symbolize the release of the coin into circulation as well as the end of the ceremony. The coin pour has been done at all the ceremonies I've attended.
