Congrats on the find. Your photos add a nice chocolate hue to the coin - makes me miss the old days. FWIW: I like the obverse (classic!) but the reverse feels so flat. I get the symbolism, but it feels under-designed. Anyway, congrats again.
Thanks everyone! I was pretty stinkin excited when I looked through my change after I got home :) @jeffbuckes - thank you! I agree, the obverse is classic
Today, I attended the launch of the Lowell National Historical Park quarter in Lowell, Massachusetts. I bought two rolls-one to keep for myself and the other to open and spend. I recorded a video of the coin pour below.
Attendees could buy rolls of the quarters or a two-coin P&D set that was packaged and sold by a third party for about $6.00. I did not buy the set as I came for the rolls.
The coin launch was held during school hours, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Lots of nearby schools had field trips to the ceremony, and perhaps some parents took their children out of school just for this ceremony. This was the case with other coin launch ceremonies I've attended (Franklin Pierce $1 coin, 2011 Native American $1 coin, New Hampshire National Park Quarter, and Rhode Island National Park Quarter).
Also, I think the coin pour is to symbolize the release of the coin into circulation as well as the end of the ceremony. The coin pour has been done at all the ceremonies I've attended.
