I have six of these coins, but they are from 2000, and I really doubt they worth anything and are actual gold. probably just painted over lol.

so I doubt its rare but.. but then who know, maybe its some collectors editions and EACH ONE IS WORTH OVER 65 BILLION DOLLARS! ITS POSSIBLE RIGHT?!?!?

lol, is it rare and whats it worth?

Normal dollar coins from the US. They are not gold!

They are worth exactly one dollar each.

Oh lame sauce!! lol. I'm starting to wonder why all these coins I have were passed down to me. I mean its only 1 box out of like 4 I have. but this box looked like it had the rarest coins, so I started with it 1st lol.

but thanks for the info!!

Some people refer to them as golden dollars, but they contain no gold. It is actually manganese. They are worth one dollar each unless there is an error or variety http://www.smalldollars.com/index.html#sacagawea

People save them because they are not seen in circulation very often (novelty factor).

These are Sacagawea dollars, coins first minted in 2000 with the intention of replacing the $1 note in circulation (and subsequently failing hence their obscurity in daily commerce). Many people know of the existence of these gold dollars but choose not to spend them anyway, despite rarely having any sort of intrinsic value above face. Much like $2 notes, these are cherished by many as collector's items and hoarded, passed down, etc, but in all honesty, what you have is exactly $6 my friend. Feel free to keep or spend, your choice.

HairyCoinNoob, you REALLY need to get The Official Red Book A Guide Book of U.S. Coins, otherwise you will be shocked by every new coin you find! It's good to read up and educate yourself about coins found in the U.S., current and past if you are going to continue in the hobby. Plus you'd learn about grading and what coins actually look like, so when you come across an error, it will help you identify it. It's available on Amazon or your local neighbourhood library. Good luck!
