I've just recently learned about CRS and I'm hooked on the idea! Forgive me if this question has been already answered here (I've searched but can't seem to find the answer).

Question: When you return searched coin rolls to the bank, do you mark them "searched" in any way, to possibly warn another roll hunter that they might be wasting their time looking through them? Also, along the same lines, would you go ahead and search a marked roll anyways, since you have no idea if the previous searcher "knew what to look for"?

Sorry if this way out of left field but I'm genuinely curious about this...

"searched" has no real meaning when it comes to coins.

In regards to "searched", searched for what, how well searched, did you not take duplicates of what you found, etc.

If it were half dollars, and I saw a roll marked "searched for silver", I'd appreciate that.

to CCF. Wouldn't hurt to write on the rolls, but I would still search a roll if it was labeled. I have no idea what the previous searcher was looking for, or how good they are at CRHing.

Would not bother me to research the rolls. What's it going to cost, I mean after all, you will get your $$ back when you take them back in. Biggest problem I have, I have asked the banks and CUs around here and they say they very rarely get a customer roll in. Maybe I will get to a big city someday and have time to stop/ask. Have fun!

Four or five years back, I used to do road trips about once a month. I'd take a couple grand in cash, head out and buy up everything I could, till the cash was gone. Always buy them all. The tellers will love you. Not only have I found silver in marked rolls, I've found marked solid silver rolls. Thete are old timers and poaching tellers that still toss back the 40% halves as 'dirty'. Also, paper rolls get re-used, marked or not.

I've never marked coins or rolls personally, I considered it a waste of my time due to the volume of coin I was searching.
Some roll hunters go as far as dumping their searched coin outside of the district their armored carrier serves, to minimize the chances of getting the same coins back in the future.

One of my banks has a guy that puts a check mark on his rolls. I used to go through them "just in case". He is very thorough so I no longer go through his rolls.

When I was very active in CRH I would pick up from two banks and would usually dump outside of my area. I travel for work, not far, but enough to get me outside of town where I would get my Money back. Also, I used to put a black dot on the top of my rolls so I knew that I had gone through them.

I pick up coins here in Maryland and will dump them South Dakota, pick up there and dump back here in Maryland. Only problem for me is that I can't do too large of volumes, only what I can carry on in my backpack on the plane. :P However, I do travel enough that it is worth it!

I do get some interesting looks from TSA going through security with a backpack full of rolls and bags of coins.
