I actually laughed out loud. Looks like it was used as a dartboard by gnomes, or something.

When I first opened your post I wasn't sure what you were talking about after looking at the first picture. Then I scrolled down. Tough luck.

I have to admit this one was nicely seated in the album for the past 25 years. I guess that I missed this when I was 12 or maybe the local dealer fed me with a piece that fit my budget!

Zohar444- well no matter how you got it, we all make mistakes as a new collector. In fact I bet everyone on this forum has a story of something stupid they did as a new collector which now makes them laugh to think of it.

I lost a large cent when I was 10. It looked like garbage, anyway.

BadThad- How would one pass it off as a dollar? By coloring it gold or something like that?

What a terrible thing to do to a coin - it almost makes me sad there are people out there who do this...

Back then there was a lot of confusion with currency, mostly due to scarcity and ignorance. By simply removing the denomination, one could pass it off a coin as a higher denomination to the unknowing.
