Indeed, those aluminum French Colonies coins of the 1940s-1960s had beautiful designs which, when the coins are uncirculated, are lovely: French Somaliland, French Polynesia, Reunion, New Caledonia, French West Africa, St. Pierre et Miquelon. I have sold off most of mine, but still have a few, and have pics of some that are gone. So, here's the striking reverse of trigger's coin (though I'm not nearly as good a photographer): If someone has New Caledonia coins from the 1940s/1950s, these are worth posting too. And my French West Africa 2 Francs 1955:

Quote: That looks too nice to be aluminium! That's what I like about aluminium coins, because the metal is so soft, they strike well and you get good detail. Can be a pain to photograph some of those real shiny ones though. Steve :)

Apart from pattern coins (essais? novedels?, trials?), what is the most numismatically valuable zinc or aluminium coin that has gone into circulation, anywhere in the World?
