Another of the infamous 1776 Mo FF Numismatic Forgeries appeared on ebay this past week. It sold for nearly $300.
I am posting this because all members need to be aware of these forgeries and repeated posts help to keep the message at the fore.

I wrote to the seller when I noticed the coin. However, my wife went to the hospital the next day and I missed the fact the auction completed.

I own several copies of this coin, which I bought knowing they were Numismatic Forgeries. Some were actually sold as fakes on ebay.

Here is the completed link to the auction. https://www.ebay.com/itm/MEXICO-177...362535019164

Here is the picture of the coin that was sold.

Here is a picture of one I own which was used in my book as an example of an incorrect mouth shape.

Finally here is an example of the same coin which was encapsulated by NCS (a conservation service owned by NGC, now part of NGC).

This is very good information to know. I bid on this coin thinking it may be a contemporary counterfeit. I am new to the forum and, therefore, had not seen any prior posts about this forgery. Thanks swamperbob!

Great info, thanks swamperbob! Could you post photos of a genuine coin for comparison?

IndianGoldEagle There actually is no genuine 1776 Mo FF coin. The genuine coin is the 1776 Mo FM.

Here is a genuine example from the web.

ChipDehart Anytime you spot a coin on ebay or elsewhere and you are not certain if it is a contemporary circulating counterfeit or a numismatic forgery - just ask. I for one have no problem with telling you to the best of my ability what a coin is.

Buying a 1776 Mo FF for anything over $5 is in my opinion a waste of money. They are still in production the last time I checked.

So unless you happen to spot a fake in a TPG holder and you are after a potential reward for turning it in, do not bother bidding. You will never recover what you spent.
