1982 LMC Small Zinc DDR FS-1801 - How Many Are There?

Not that the dies broke down, but that they noticed soon the reverse was a doubled die. The 1958-D DDO only has three known. The 1955 DDO made it till early MDS die state before it was pulled. Probably less than 100 1969-S DDO's out there. So when they do catch it, the die is pulled early. (Mint workers don't bother to sort through the coins to find the ones that passed by already. They probably figured: "No one else will notice them." But We do!

to CCF Ole Man. You should start your own thread,but I do not think your coin is a DDR at all. Would need better photos posted in your own thread to be sure.

@levelsofmadnes. I know it's been a minute since you've posted about 1982 DDO, and I wanted to ask what ever came of your coin, did it go to an auction? Just curious, I'm the guy that found one as well. Hope all is well and hope to hear back from you,

Article is from 2008 of course, but the math is there. Let's say like the 1995 DD, the die life was 600,000 strikes, and attrition rate of 10% being lost to damage per year since being minted. in 2008 the writers conclusion is that preliminary estimates of possible surviving pieces of this particular doubled die are likely between 100 and 500 pieces, of which fewer than 20 percent are likely to currently be uncirculated in grade.

I think the math is a little off since If I scale it for an attrition rate, it's more like about 40K surviving up to this year in some level of circulated to mint state.
but it could be right also with a few hundred examples tops surviving still to find. it's a hard guess really, not many been graded or sold.

I'm going to state the obvious on this coin and the other one found recently. Not knocking anyone. With such a low population there is no price guide on this coin. You have to find two bidders that want to battle it out for this coin or start with an incredibly high bid price. I have two top pop coins with similar rarity. One with a 3k book value and feel it would be very hard to get over $1000 at auction but who knows.
