I ran across this item at an estate sale. I didn't stick around to see what it sold for, but I'm guessing not much. I suspect someone put a lot of time and energy into this. It is all made of cash coins.

Looks like it would be too dull to do much damage. Like whacking someone with a rolled-up towel

Just shows you people over there are just as nutty as people here with not knowing what to do with coins. For sure would have to be filed with coin toilet seats.

It's supposed to be a good luck charm, from what I've read. Even in 19th century terms, a single cash coin had about the buying power that a quarter does today, and there was a lot of mythology attached to certain coins, such as believing that finding a Kangxi (China's longest-reigning emperor, 1661-1722)
in your change was an omen of long life.

I doubt that authentic 18-19th century cash swords still exist outside of museums and maybe a few families that didn't lose everything between the revolution, civil wars, war with Japan, and then Communist takeover. Most likely they are made recently, but probably using authentic 18th/19th century coins.

It is a Chinese coin sword. In Feng Shui, it keeps the "Breath of Death" away from your home. The point of the coin sword is displayed angle down pointed towards an entrance way.

Through my father's travels across Asia in the the mid 80's and his passing, I inherited one.

Yours is much nicer than the one I saw. All the coins were polished.
