check out this dime, I can see the diagonal part of a S inside the D mintmark.

This is listed in CherryPickers Guide as FS-10-1950D-501 in the 5th edition volume 2.

@1dbn, those are great pictures. I definitely see a gouge along the bottom of the D, but not sure that I see much of a remnant from an S. Moreover, I don't see an OMM listed on varietyvista for this date. With all that said, I'm not 100% sure so I'll be interested to see what others think.

Ok well, hopefully the consensus here will confirm that you should send in the first example to them then.

Well this one is a normal mint mark with Machine Doubling on the bottom of the mint mark. The lines you seeing are either Die flow or die scratches. Nothing is raised. If it were a 'S' mint mark, it would be obviously raised. This is not the case on your coin. I checked the PCGS site, no images of the D/S. I check ed Heritage Coins and they've never sold one. But on a D/S you should see something like this nickel D/S:

Note how you can see the 'S' inside the mint mark and on top of the mint mark. Yours is a normal coin with Machine Doubling, damaging the bottom edge of the mint mark.
