I have some Half Cents starting in 1849. I think some years were proof only?

Yes, I forgot.

1812 through 1824 - No Half Cents at all
1836 - Proof only.
1798, 1799. 1801, 1827, 1830, 1837, '38 and '39 - No Half Cents at all
1840 through 1848 - Proof only
