Someone apparently stripped the copper plating off, causing the zinc core to get exposed. It's the result of Post Strike Damage ( PSD). Errers and Varietys. Report this Post to the Staff

Spence Moderator United States 34453 Posts	Posted 03/28/2019 9:18 pm @JW3, for learning purposes, you could give this coin a quick wash in acetone. If a black marker was used, then the ink will quickly come off. If not, then I think that @E&V is right and the copper was removed leaving the underlying zinc core visible. In the end, this cent is only worth face value.
