WOW! Thanks to everyone for all the great information! Lots of ideas and places. I think I'm going to start with one or two books and give the local library a try. Perhaps I'll find some information there. Thank you to everyone who took the time to answer. I'm certain I will have more questions in the future. This forum does seem quite good. I will keep looking here as well. Thanks again!

NO, no don't listen to us here. More coin collectors means less coins for me.
In reality though, attempt to get a Red Book by Whitman publishing. However, if your just starting out and want to save a few dollars, try a flea market of used book store for a older issue. The Information is still good and the prices in any of them, including the 2009 version is a joke anyway. If you can find any coin shows in your area, try visiting one for information, cheaper items, a great spread of different coins to look at. For example at a coin show I was at last Sunday the Ringed soft cover copy of the 2009 Red Book was only $10.
Books of any kind on coins are a necessity but as already noted you can not beat the internet. Right here you can ask a question about a coin or coins and get answers fast and up to date. Of course there are always a few of us that will lie or exagerate, but as you get used to that, you'll learn a great deal.
All to soon you'll be answering questions for others.
