Interesting man (looked him up). Thanks for sharing "Scots." Mimar Sinan (on the back of the note) was a genius architect who was responsible for the construction of more than 300 structures in Turkey (circa: 1490-1590).

Thanks walk2dwater, I too was wondering who the guy on the reverse of the note was. He helped build some beautiful places, lived to almost 100 years of age, quite an age for the times. I've visited the 'blue mosque' in Istanbul, I wonder if that was one of Sinan's designs.
Eta - it was in fact designed by one of Sinan's understudies

Quote: I too was wondering who the guy on the reverse of the note was. According to Wiki, Sinan was just as significant/famous & highly regarded as Michelangelo. Quote: it was in fact designed by one of Sinan's understudies . Apparently many of his students went on to contribute several Turkish masterpiece buildings, highly regarded to this day.

Thanks walk2dwater, she kind of reminds me of the Colombian lady I posted a few pages back in this thread. Staying in The Americas.. Floriano Peixoto 1839-1895 Brazil's 2nd President, a soldier & politician also known as 'The Iron Marshal'. An authoritarian leader who suppressed rebellions among the Brazilian military, he was unpopular & also had a personality cult surrounding him- 'florianista'. Peixoto features on this banknote with the National Congress buildings in Brasilia on the reverse vignette. Brazil 100 Cruzeiro (1974)

King Philip II of Spain 1527-1598 Regarded by his enemies as a despotic monster, capable of barbarity via The Inquisition, he saw his main role as defender of Catholic Europe against The Ottoman Empire & The Protestant Reformation. Famously sending an Armada in a failed attempt to invade England. One of the most powerful monarchs of his era, Felipe II is on this Spain 100 Peseta (1925) *apologies if image is a little blurred, it exceeded the 300kb limit*
