Thanks walk2dwater Fran Krsto Frankopan 1643-1671 Petar Zrinski 1621-1671 Croatian Poet, Nobleman & Politician during the reign of the powerful Austrian Habsburg Monarchy. Along with Petar Zrinski, Frankopan successfully liberated areas occupied by Ottoman Turks, however instead of supporting the duo to liberate more occupied parts of Hungary/Croatia, the Military Council in Vienna signed secret Treaties with the Ottomans handing back the territories they had freed. Frankopan and Zrinski rebelled against the King, Leopold 1. Both were publicly decapitated in Vienna as a result. Not often 2 'rebels' appear on the one banknote but here they are on the Croatia 5 Kuna (2001)

Rei Amador - In 1595 he organised & led a Slave Rebellion against the Portugese on the island of Sao Tome & Principe, in the Gulf of Guinea off the coast of Central Africa. He ruled the island until his capture and execution in 1596. A January 4th National Holiday & a Soccer team are named in his honour as well as his image appearing on the island's banknotes. 5000 dobras (2013)

I like that note "Scots" and it could be in the "Avian" section too.

Thanks walk2dwater, I believe it is already in the Avian note thread. The latest series of notes from Sao Tome & Principe feature butterflies, I think they had a currency re-evaluation too, the denominations are much lower.

King Robert I of Scotland aka "Robert The Bruce" 1274-1329 One of the most famous warriors of his generation he led many rebellions against England, eventually becoming King of Scotland in 1306 until his death. He established Scotland as an Independent Kingdom after a succession of battles, the most famous being his victory over King Edward II of England at Bannockburn, Stirlingshire in 1314. Revered as a National Hero in Scotland, Robert has featured on banknotes and there are various monuments across the country. Part of his remains are buried in my home town, within the ruins of St Serf's Church, where he worshipped. He is on both sides of this Clydesdale Bank £1 from 1988

Nice anecdote "Scots." The battle scene on the back of the note is very dramatic.

- Nice change of pace from BOS Sir Walter Scott notes! Just curious "Scots"- what is one of your favourite low denomination Scottish banknotes?

Hi walk2dwater, the Royal Bank of Scotland produced a few excellent commemorative £1 notes in the 1990's, Robert Louis Stevenson, Alexander Graham Bell, and of course the Jack Nicklaus £5 are ones that spring to mind and all very nice banknotes to collect. I quite like these commemoratives. The 1999 Scottish Parliament note is UNC, the RLS & AGB are a bit crinkly due to being notes I got years ago from a friend who kept them aside for me In perfect UNC condition they are maybe worth 8 or 9 times face value.
