Quote: the Royal Bank of Scotland produced a few excellent commemorative £1 notes in the 1990's, Robert Louis Stevenson, Alexander Graham Bell, and of course the Jack Nicklaus £5 are ones that spring to mind and all very nice banknotes to collect. -Thanks "Scots" I'll keep an eye open for these. Nice examples BTW.

@walk2dwater, 2 million of these "250th Anniversary of St Andrews Old Course" RBS £5 notes were issued in 2004. I have never seen one probably all snapped up by golf enthusiasts!

I like the design of that note. I just looked them up on my SWPMC and was surprised to find they're not that dear. The 2002 5 Pound "Golden Jubilee is P362 and BV=$25. For the note you posted (P363) runs at $30 (the most expensive); 2005 (P364) is $17.50 & the Jack Nicklaus is $19.00
I'm sure that the BV are likely conservative if these notes are hard to come by in UNC.

King Mohammed V of Morocco 1909-1961, was Sultan of Morocco from 1927 until forced into exile on Corsica, by French Colonial Authorities in 1953. He was an important National figure in pushing for Moroccan Independence, returning from exile to Morocco in 1955 he was recognized once again as Sultan after active opposition in the country to French rule. In 1956 he successfully negotiated with France & Spain for the Independence of Morocco and took the title of King in 1957. Mohammed V is held in esteem by Moroccan Jews due to his protective measures against the Nazi/Vichy authorities during WWII. An airport, universities, football stadium are named in his honour along with most major Moroccan cities having an 'Avenue Mohammed V' among their streets. He is on this small, 2 Syli (1981) banknote from Guinea.

Thanks jbuck. Quite unusual for one country's monarch to appear on another country's currency I thought.

Jomo Kenyatta 1897-1978 The 1st President of Kenya, educated by Presbyterian Missionaries, later in the 1920's he became increasingly interested in politics & became an ardent anti-colonial agitator. Kenyatta gained higher education at the London School of Economics, a Communist College in Moscow and worked on a farm in England during WWII. He was arrested and charged (wrongly some say) with co-ordinating the Mau Mau uprising against the British in the 1950's & was exiled until 1961 when he entered politics, becoming Prime Minister in 1963. He oversaw the transition from colony to Independent Republic & became Kenya's 1st President in 1964, serving until his death in 1978. A divisive character, hailed by some, accused of corruption and favouring certain sections/ethnic groups by others, his Presidency was pro-Western Capitalist and anti-Communist. He was given the title 'Mzee' meaning "grand old man" in Swahili. He is on this 20 shilling note (1978)

Karl Marx 1818-1883 Philosopher, Theorist & Socialist Revolutionary. Of Jewish/Protestant heritage, his political & philosophical writings greatly influenced subsequent generations, 'Marxism' the replacement of Capitalism with a classless Socialist society. Lauded and criticised, Marx is cited as one of the most influential figures in human history. He is on this East Germany 100 Mark banknote (1975) The back of the note has an interesting Berlin street scene showing the iconic GDR tv tower or 'Fernsehturm', near Alexanderplatz, still the tallest structure in Germany. Once a symbol of GDR power now regarded as a symbol of reunification complete with bar, restaurant & viewing platform.
