1960D LMC Small Date has nice die chips at the base of both S's in States , die chip on the upper part of the O in One, die chip to the left of the O in One, at the base of the Lincoln Memorial, and finally, the question mark?

Is that a doubled base-line and a die chip underneath it or one big elongated die chip that looks like an extra part of the baseline on the right side of the coin.

Did you find this circulating? If so, good eye. I have run across some of these in circulation and toss them in my "not necessarily an error box". The pennies I can think of finding have a blob/chip in the date and that's it; your cent with several is impressive.

Does anyone care about these or are they just novelties?

Hi puman,

1960/1960d cents are loaded with anomalies.

I guess if one collects die chips/gouges etc it's a treasure chest, to someone else its needless junk.

I personally keep coins with die chips/ die gouges etc- I happen to like the way they look etc, 99 percent of them are probably not worth a darn thing extra but there is always the chance you might find something special that may carry a premium with it.

This particular coin was pulled from circulated bank wrapped rolls of cents quite awhile ago.

I've been going through all my accumulated "STUFF" to see what I should get rid of (cash in at the bank) and never noticed the possible baseline doubling on the right side of the memorial on this coin.

I guess it's worth re-looking at your coins a little closer before you cash them in!

3 more pics- additional die chip by the upper part of the T in cent and 2 more baseline pics- different coloration.

Chuckster,
Yes, there are a number of abnormalities associated with the 60 date. I have one that clearly went through a fire and had a nickel resting on top of it, the obverse of the cent has an image of Monticello imprinted on it. Worthless but sort of neat.
I looked at a couple of die chipped pieces in my possession and have a few with the loop in the nine filled with a nugget of copper, again worthless but well worth keeping in my opinion; it's only a cent.

I have been through hundreds, if not nearly a thousand, rolls of 1960 Lincoln cents. About half have some form of die chips somewhere on the coin. At first I considered keeping them, but when I had a dozen different ones out of three rolls, I made a realization...

Keeping fully struck, unscathed, completely normal high grade 1960 cents is a far better and scarcer thing to collect.

I've actually been offered $50 for one of my hand-cherried MS66+ rolls of 1960P LD cents. I declined. It took over 200 rolls worth of hunting to assemble one of these rolls. Each coin is worth in excess of $10 to me.
