hockingzig Pillar of the Community United States 1450 Posts	Posted 08/30/2008 5:33 pm Below the first 9 and also just NE of the 4 are"blobs". They are very distinct with the coin in hand but they don't scan well and my camera won't take pictures to help the cause. Are the blobs die chips? Report this Post to the Staff

coppercoins Pillar of the Community United States 7629 Posts	Posted 08/30/2008 11:20 pm Die chips won't have flow lines running over them, because in the area of the die chip the die - well - isn't there. Only in very rare circumstances will a die chip present itself and not grow in any way before die wear takes over. Generally chips are short lived before becoming cracks, then breaks or some other weakness that retires a die. Another thing - die chips have very crisp, very well defined edges. They are never soft.
