All this talk about something to the right of the date when there is the big thing on the bust. Could you give us a full coin shot ,obverse and reverse?

It's either a struck-in flake of metal or a flake of metal that is delaminating from the coin's surface. I strongly suspect the latter, as another flake detached from the area above and to the right of the date before the strike (hence the weakness on the reverse).

My guess would have been It Is a 1977 D and has a Retained Interior Die Break starting from the rim in to the coin. And the rim damage could be Mint or PSD not sure. To me it looks like a pushed Seven.
