Has there been any additional word on these $1 and $2 commemorative circulation coins supposedly planned for 2020?
Bill Reid was born on January 12, 2020. (100th anniversary $2) The UN Charter was signed on June 26, 1945. (75th anniversary $1) WWII ended on September 2, 1945. (75th anniversary $2)
It's been 3 months since Bill Reid's 100th year birth anniversary with no coin yet. Has it been canceled or is it still planned?

I almost forgot about these 3 (6) coins coming out this year. No, I haven't heard any news of them yet, but there's still 8 more months for the RCM to release them. I AM thinking at least one of the two twonies should be out soon though; at least by May or June. It would be a little wacky to release both at the same time later in the year.

The corona virus pandemic probably caused release plans by the RCM to be delayed...

Quote: Also, I had to look up who Bill Reid was. Not one of the Canadian we learned about in school.
There is a lot of things you don't learn in school. Surprised anyone not knowing who Bill Reid was. Bill Reid was the most renowned Aboriginal Artist in Canada, if not the world. His artwork is on the back of the 2004 $20 bill. Plus his sculpture, Spirit of Haida Gwaii, is in the International Terminal of the Vancouver Airport.

I'm pretty sure the majority of Canadians have no idea who Bill Reid was. It would be very similar with Viola Desmond before she was on our $10. That's one good reason to collect coins and banknotes because you learn new things. It certainly helped me learn about the past British monarchs when I was first starting out.

I really hope the RCM sells these on their website in plio 5-packs with free shipping the same way they did in the mid-2010s with $1 and $2 circulation issues. Since the coin exchanges are unlikely to happen this year the RCM needs other distribution mechanisms. Thoughts?

@Aley A: I think it would be a very good idea. Let's hope it'll happen.

I am waiting for next year when the RCM celebrates the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Canada. There can't be much left on the list they haven't already commemorated.

The Bill Reid $2 will be part of the August NCLT release. They are being issued in special wrap and card issues same as last year's $2 special issues. Unfortunately no notice of a 5 pack as yet. He has recently begun adding $5 commemoratives. His articles are a must read when he issues them. For those with an interest in Canadian coinage... hopefully Bill Reid will become a better known artist... for those who do know his work, the $2 is a must add to any collection.

As seen in this thread http://goccf.com/t/379245C$159,90 for C$100,00 is a pretty hefty surcharge for the coins. Especially, since I am interested in the coins, not the paper. Incidentally, I now think we will not see the 5-packs for the Bill Reid and End of WWII Toonies and the United nations Charter Loonie.

Quote: Bill Reid toonie enters circulation today I visited the RCM site today and dropped a Keepsake Set (the one with the regular and coloured toonie and the $1.40 worth of the other circulated coins) into my shopping cart, but will wait until I can find more stuff to get to the free-shipping threshold.
