I am new to collecting and have very little idea what I am doing. I found this coin in a collection I bought. I've looked through the internet and found nothing that helps determine if this is valuable or junk. Any advice on grading and value would be appreciated.

Pretty old coin, still looking good for its age. A keeper
Id put it in a 2X2.
For grading purposes, always take a picture of the observe and the reverse (heads and tails).

to CCF. Looks like a Grease Filled Die issue. The 1 is not missing,I still see some of it in the last pic. Not much if any added value.

@SC, first welcome to CCF. Second, while this Indian Head cent is not in the best condition, I think that the value it has comes from it being a coin of this series (IHCs) rather than the mostly missing 1 in the date. With this amount of wear and tear, it certainly could have been a partly grease-filled die that caused the 1 to not be fully struck, but that digit could also have been mostly removed after this coin left the mint too. I agree that pics of both sides of the coin are needed to determine the grade.

Or it could be a coin minted in the year 881 AD.
But then how would they know about Indians.?
