For my own collection, I'm not into the Large Cents, but this was part of the collection passed on to me. Even I can tell this has been cleaned, I don't think this colour of copper happens naturally in coins.. But I know the details are really nice. At the onset, I know cleaned coins can't be MS, because they aren't, well, in the state as they were at the Mint! So, what is the highest grade cleaned coins can achieve? And if we imagined no cleaning on this coin, what grade would it get?

58 details as it is now because of rim dings & cleaning with most likely some unknown class of environmental damage present on the patina.

63 details w/o any cleaning or w/o any environmental damage but with rim dings still noted.

Oftentimes, before a TPG knocks a coin down a full grade they will assign it a 'details' mark. This is what I'm seeing here since the rim damage is borderline in terms of affecting the grade.

IMHO

@Bill, at first I wasn't sure what D/C was, then I looked at the leaves and found the huge Die Crack that I hadn't noticed before.. thanks!! (I was blinded by the unholy copper shine from the cleaned surface, haha)

just noticed the mintmark H at the bottom of the coin - since the topic is over 24 hrs old I, if a moderator could rename the topic title to "1900 H" as I can't, that would be fantastic. Thanks..
