There is also something wrong with the laminate. The affected areas on the coin are raised so it's not a toning issue. Any thoughts?

Try giving the coin a good soak in acetone. When an anomaly is defined by a color change, checking to see if it is a foriegn substance on the surface of the coin is the first thing I do.

@sm227 is right--it could be clear glue residue. Also, looks like a little MD on UNITED.

After 6 hours in acetone. E&V if just damage, any idea of the cause? Water in between this and another coin maybe?
