I collect all denominations, but mainly 50's to date, I really need to work on the older stuff. My favorite use to be quarters until the RCM started putting out special quarters for every occasion, Oh Canada set, congratulations set, birthday set, baby set, all of the hockey sets. At $20-$25 a set it would cost a small fortune to keep an up to date collection. So now I settle for only circulated coins.

Love it all. A local coin shop has nickels and quarters for face value, but is 8x face fair to pay for Canadian silver?

I would think that 8x face is not bad even now , that's currently $9.60 CDN most dealers will sell bu 1$ for $9 to $10 for common stuff. I seem to remember that the formula is $10 face value x 7.1 times the current price of silver. Then divide by the denomination. 10.00/$1.00silver x 7.1=7.10 xi.e.silver value $14.00/oz = 99.40 divided by 10pcs =$9.94each. or 10 roll 25cent would be 99.40 divided by 40pcs = $2.35each coin awkward but it works , I think

I'm slowly working on a Canada Type Set using the old Dansco albums. Some of those Victorian pieces are gonna take time to find.

I started collecting two months ago, joined this site ten minutes ago, and am already concentrating on graded coins. I realize there will be deals in the realm of the ungraded masses, but I enjoy the official-feeling status that grading confers on a coin. I find MS63 fine for most examples, and the jump to MS65 or better will only be warranted on investment items, as opposed to those that I collect simply because I like them...

I collect all Canadian , nearing a complete collection , I included Mint products if the same denomination as coins of circulation .Bought most of that on e-bay for about half of issue price , the hunt is fun. Pennies are great in Canadian as you can go from start to finish, 1858 to date, very reasonably in lesser grades for date set.

Hello everyone! I just got started on Canadian cents about a year ago, maybe less, I dion't remember, but I have one '23 cent to go to finish one folder. I have five, but that is because I had so many coming in, that I got three folders off ebay, and started working on them. I have all from '27, to '08 in the cents, but the '22-'26 are the ones I am not able to get hold of yet. I have a standing call for any, and all of that group. Kurt has helped me a great deal, but I think he has worn out so many pairs of shoes, on my behalf, that he is almost 'bare-foot!.. I'm gtii ing down to the very expensive lincoln cents, too. That '09-S VDB will probably never reside in my folder, unless I hit the lottery, (and I don't play, so that is unlikely). I too look for the '06-P, but.....Canadian, that is. I started out like manty others, just what ever came along, no rhyme, or rythum. After a while, one gets so many in a date secquence, thaat one had to get the folder. Then, you're hooked! It is fun, tho, so enjoy! Dick

I collect Canadian decimal business strikes from 1858-1967 >all six decimals & all I.C.C.S. I'm currently 95% finished, just a few key dates to tie up and maybe a few upgrades in the next 20 years!

Pretty much anything that strikes my fancy at a coin show. I've got my blue coin folders for US and Canadian, and keep my eyes open for anything I'm missing.
I also collect stamps and banknotes, so going to a show is a matter of casing the entire room first before where I decide where/what to spend money.

I love the small cents, I guess because I find a lot roll searching. I've found a handful of early dates and some nicely toned '50s. I have some nice silver dollars, aurora borealis over the guys in the canoe, beautiful!

I have been collecting Canada 5 cents. at a coin show this weekend, I added the 1903-H and 1926 far 6. Right now, I only lack the following: - 1858 large date - 1874 H - plain and crosslet - 1875-H - 1884 - 1902-H - 1947 dot - 1921, which I understand is basically impossible to find.

Rekindled interest in collecting about 3 months ago from my childhood. Found bags of old silver and misc low grade type coins in a family estate cleanout recently which sparked the treasure hunter in me. I been visiting this site for about a month. I have been drawn to nickels for some reason but have picked up a few inexpensive items in large and small cents and a few new half and dollars mostly in the MS or PL quality in non graded. I usually bid on lots of inexpensive items on ebay and win a few. Free shipping from any Canadian vendor is a real benefit which helps. I scan ebay almost daily comparing to Trends and reference the new Charlton to learn the details as well. Have all ready met a couple collectors in my area that have helped me out as well as attended a show and auction. Hope to be active here when I can.

I collect PCGS and ICCS 1949-1967 PL dollars as well as "raw" and graded original PL sets from 1953-1960. Also both "king's" large cents in NGC and PCGS.
After collecting for many years in the US (and giving up 6 years ago) I have been delighted to collect 3-4 years in Canada where you can occasionally afford a "best ever graded" on a professor's salary. You need to be a (multi, multi) millionaire to do that in the US.
