I've checked a great many contemporary sources over the years, books, directories, newspapers, periodicals, etc.; all, to no avail as yet. The double-struck stamp shows us that the star and letters were parts of a single punch; this, as opposed to having used two or three separate punches. It appears that the striker didn't use enough force the first time. @jbuck .... That's a most respectable specimen of the scarce 1850 year. I rarely encounter that date at shows! ExoGuy Pillar of the Community United States 4421 Posts	Posted 09/30/2019 06:02 am Here's yet another one of the enigmatic counterstamps to be found on Half Cents. It's been speculated that this SPL c/s may be a railroad logo for Southern Pacific Lines. At least two dozen of these c/s's have been reported, all of which appear on 1851 Half Cents.
