Hello again. So, I found this very shiny 1920 Canadian cent with a hole, slightly off center. First off, WHY would some one drill a whole through such a new looking old coin, and secondly, what am I supposed to do with it?

Cents and torture devices go hand in hand for young teenagers.

LOL...I suppose so. I know when I was younger, I loved using the soldering iron and poking holes in all the plastic garbage bins and laundry hampers. Until I was caught.

Must have been. It is quite shiny! So, any ideas what I can do with this? Stick a chain through it and see if someone wants a necklace? :)

It was a tradition back in the day to nail a copper piece to a rafter when building a house. It was a token of good luck / fortune / prosperity for the family.

These came to be known as "Rafter Cents". Usually found with square holes from hand cut nails.
