At first glance, it looked like plating with rot, but after seeing the "O" incused with a rim,overlapping the bottom of the S, definitely something else... the A (america) has what looks like really small letters under the horizontal bar (5th photo), and a raised impression of idk...my camera had a hard time with the details, like a faint large "O" between OF.
