his is a 2003 Lincoln Cent and the middle line of the E extends all the way to the S in the last two letters of State. I have looked in the Wexler die varieties web site and haven't been able to find anything like this on there or in my books. I've never seen something like this before and it is stamped in from the die. It's not a gauge, it sticks out and is not carved in. There also looks like some kind of doubling on the T and F but I'm assuming that they are mechanical if someone could please clarify and let me know if you have seen this strange extension before. Thank You.

to the CCF!

I don't think it's a die error. It looks like a plating issue, so it's not really an error at all.

A die gouge is incuse on the die, and raised on the coin. A gouge could flow behind a device. Does it give when pressed on with a toothpick? If so it a gas bubble. If not then a closer view might be hand to see how the bottom of the 'E' is affected.
