Today I was able to buy two complete Eisenhower Dansco albums for $125 each. One seems to have a little nicer coins than the other. The nicer collection appears to have a peg leg 71S proof. Would greatly appreciate any educational comments about the coin I have. I also was able to buy fifty early seventies proof sets for $4 each, as well as some brown box Ikes and a couple of the blue envelopes also for $4 each. Guidance on how to approach searching these for varieties would be appreciated. Ive read the Ike Group blog on the 71S Proof peg leg but have an untrained eye to know how to compare. Kind of difficult to get good photos of proofs so any tips welcomed. Thank you!

You are very welcome. Were you able to determine what your coin is?

@John1 The variety vista site was a great starting point but bc they only offer one photo for the ob design and one for the rev design I need to find more references for comparison. The coin I have appears to be a fading peg leg but I can't tell if its high or low relief. The best match I could make is with the photos of the mixed relief coin, both obverse hair look the same and the rev tail feathers look the same (to me anyway). Once again thank you for your help. When I can Ill post pics of the hair and tail feathers for your opinion!

@John1 sorry for the overkill on the photos! Do you know if the open "9" on the date occurs on the mixed relief coin? Ive read three different sites but don't see that detail. I need the easy button LOL and that info would be helpful to redirect my search if necessary !

Just an over polished die, like all the weakened/missing devices on other coins. There were there and now they are weakened/missing.

The list of these continues to grow. But I always ask why? They are just from an over polished die. They are die events. Save the best, spend the rest, is my motto.

This should be helpful. Though I think I agree with coop, and this one is an over polished Die.
