Hello again-I was at an open house estate sale and I picked up the 1939 Ausy sixpence for $10 and its Nice Low Mintage . Its appears to be in AU-Ms60 condition. I dont generally buy foreign but this still had a nice white luster and really no marks on it. What Grade would you give it and if I were to sell what should I expect to get. Thanks again Mike
92.5% fine sterling silver. Some smoothing of the emu's feathers and a slight flattening of the high point on the star (rev.) indicate very minor wear. EF (British grading).
The poor definition of the stars on the shield and the lack of sharpness on the grass below the shield are due to die wear.
However, with Australian silver of all denominations at around this date, there is a lack of hair detail on George V1, that came from the master die. The scarce 1942 Melbourne Mint threepence in particular, is notorious for this.
That is why I based my grading on the reverse only.
