Question. I generally see these medals selling for between $1000-$4000 depending on grade. What is the story on these medals? Who issued them? How do they still exist, I would guess that they all would have been destroyed or melted?

There are numerous Hitler Portrait Medals issued by different makers and readily available
to collectors of this stuff .
Colbert / Hyder are the authors of the authoritative
Work on the subject . The book itself is out of print
But can be found with a quick Google search .

The Book itself is extremely difficult to acquire .
There was a small print run by Publisher El Cajon
in 1981 , two recent sales ( 2019) were $222.00 USD ($290 CAD)
Also an auction in Germany €200 Euro ( $288.00 CAD)

I don't know anything about these, but it sure looks like a date of 1933, not 1938.

Most medals like these were sold to the public as political fund raisers which was common even back in the imperial era.
