See the envelope picture. This coin was purchased by its original owner in 1959, for the staggeringly large sum of 50 cents. I have a few other coins from this collection as well, which will make appearances shortly.

1886 - In my country a large volcano called Tarawera erupted on June 10th, believed to have occurred due to a Maori curse. Tourists claimed to have seen an old Maori canoe rowed by dog headed warriors in towards the mountain.

The eruption buried a village called Te Wairoa and the Pink and White Terraces, the village was excavated much later and many coins and bottles of grog were found.

Here is a coin from 1886 for you, not from Te Wairoa. However this coin may have been bought back by a soldier after WW1 as an exotic souvenir.

Another Ottoman Egyptian Treasure, this 10 Piastres is dated Year of 10 of Abdul Hamid II's reign = AH 1302 = 1885/1886AD.

Again well worn but interesting and a curious large silver piece (Silver half dollar sized).

Interesting coin, Princetane!

There's a big difference in the condition of my British coins from 1887 and those from 1886...

And yet some how they are much better than my sorry pair for 1886

How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Sixth-Edition!-Ended-At-1380-Waiting-On-1379

A penny in basically aGood condition - the best thing is that it is clearly dated 1886, which is more than can be said for the Florin!

How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Sixth-Edition!-Ended-At-1380-Waiting-On-1379

These Gothic florins turn up a lot in extremely worn condition like these and even worse the date numbers wear off at lightning speed. This coin is either 1876 or 1886 as 2 x's and a vi are clear, however, the next shrouded figure is another x rather than a l (However its borderline too faint).

I am sticking with 1886 as its a very common year and 1876 is less common. I have a second gothic florin, undateable as its more worn than this

The only good thing about coins this worn - is you get them for melt or less. These came in a collection.
