That 8 Reales is gorgeous! Here is a 1759 2 Kreuzer from the Archbishopric of Salzburg (Austria) Sigismund von Schrattenbach was Prince-Archbishop at the time. Both Mozart and his father, as well as a certain composer named Haydn, were part of his court's orchestra; his successor, the Archbishop Graf Colloredo, was a prominent patron (and, often, antagonist) of Mozart; frenemies, if you will. And here is a 1759 3 Pfennig from the Electorate Archbishopric of Mainz in Germany. The elector was the Archbishop Johann Friedrich Karl von Ostein, also the titular Prince-Bishop of Worms. Unfortunately, 4-5 years after this coin was struck, Mainz was bankrupt, the result of reparations levied as punitive measures (for supporting and being on the losing side) after both the War of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years' War. Probably I have asked this before out here, but I wonder why this denomination is called schilling in some parts of the Baltic region, and solidus in others  ? Was this just a function of when the legends on the coins from a certain place changed from Latin to the vernacular? |

Partly this, partly the whole thing where in the Polish territories the vernacular probably wasn't German and they would rather stick with Latin on their coins than switch to Polish - never mind Latvian or whatever. |

Agree @keith's coin is a real beauty. The farther back we go, the more potential compromises on cleaned coins... Another well circulated trojak from the Gdansk mint for my 1758 coin; some larger Polish silver coming in a couple of days:   |
