How Far Back Can We Go? Sixth Edition! Ended At 1380 Waiting On 1379

Technically we already did that in the 5th edition, but I admit that 1) we had @pepactonius at the time, and 2) even so 1486 was lucky. I would definitely miss @louie, but I've been told that the CCF mod team's disagreements with them are unsalvageable.

I'm still low-key looking into 15th century dated Islamic coins, but as of right now I'm up to "one, maybe". (A lot more from the 14th century, but that doesn't help.) I hope I manage to get more by the time the thread gets there (circa late June, I believe).

As stated above, we would want this one to catch up to the fifth first.

However, since I have all the power...

If this one stalls for at least a month I will consider forfeiting it to start a seventh edition. This one would be locked and the fifth would remain the champion, open to move backward.

My option: if we end up stalling for over a month before catching up, you can start the 7th edition (if you want), but do not lock this one.

We would then technically have three editions going on (two of them in the 15th century) until either 6 catches up to 5 (at which point 5 is locked and we're back to two), 7 catches up to 6 (at which point 6 is locked, and 8 is started; then we're back at three but the numbers have shifted), or, theoretically, 7 stalls for over a month (then start a new active edition, and so on, locking every edition that a newer one caught up to, and starting one more if it was the newest active pair that caught up).

Anything else would mean that people waiting to post their 1470s/1460s coins would have to wait until we get all the way through the last five centuries again, which is extremely inconvenient. Who knows if @Spence or @tdziemia will even still be here in 2023?

Though both Kop.781, there were lots of die varieties that year. Yours has REX POLON and a "normal" beard; mine has REX PO and that strange beard that sticks out into the legend.

1605 English Sixpence:

The date looks a bit like '1603', but the fleur-de-lis mintmark confirms it is 1605. Portrait is King James I of England who was also King James VI of Scotland, son of Mary, Queen of Scots who had been put to death in 1587 on the orders of Queen Elizabeth I. James I is famous as being one of the first people to claim that smoking tobacco was bad for the health! He also gave authorisation for a new translation of the Holy Bible, which is still widely used today (known as The Authorised Version).

Good on you Numis Rob, definitely agree about the 6d, 2nd coinage 1604/19 and mintmark along with the word Quad starting inscription.

All thanks to that Crown my rich Kiwi friend showed me last weekend. I got to hold a James I crown, but in fact all I could afford off him was a battered 1925 Aussie Florin!!! The Crown was only dated with mintmark (Lis 105) and it looked similar to the first coinage one (1603 - 1604), showing the King on horseback with square decorated saddle but check that inscription.

J Buck, agree, but realistically how many of us have 15th century dated coins? 95% of us have exclusively 19th and 20th century coins with a few older, my last coin here was 1635 and oldest with a date was 1656.
