Post yours before we get dropped to 1455 In any case, after the "1457" coin, AFAIK I don't have anything until 1452, and then nothing more until 1387 (except maybe some long date ranges; I'll have to check the pics). I'd be surprised if we make it to 1387 this year.

Quote: The 1390s are really bad (from 1402 until 1388, inclusive, we seem to only have one non-Grinya entry) and remarked upon as such in the original thread; apparently the usual European options almost entirely dry up for this decade. I've got a source for a couple of those missing dates, but the coins show up in either terrible condition or quite expensive (or both). I will keep my eye out even though we are all suspecting we will never get that far back). Florence, which is often a great source because of their system with the mint magistrates, produced almost no coins datable to the 1390s. The last one I could find (a 1391) sold in 2011 for 350 eu, so I expect it would get 500 today. For anyone who might be interested, there are a couple of Ottoman coins on MA-shops right now that look like clear AH792: https://www.ma-shops.com/schwarzkh/....php?id=4381https://www.ma-shops.com/schmuckstu...php?id=16785A bit later, 1408 is available as a Polish coin (I've bid once and lost). The undated half groats of Wladyslaw Jagiello have recently been classified and dated by Pawlikowski. He attributes a few subtypes to specific dates (1403, 1407, 1408).

That's crazy how hard it is to find coins from before 1500! Everything I see listed is as noted above in bad shape or expensive.
I did a quick check and (excluding ancients) my oldest fully dated coin is 1534. I do have a few hammered coins ranging from Edward I to Henry VIII but they are only attributable to a general time period and not fully dated. Also a couple of undated Hungarian coins with the same concern

You can get back to 1510, even 1509 pretty easily with Polish - Lithuanian types. At 1500 there is the Salzburg coin (batzen?) that's readily available in good grade. The easiest 1490s coin might be the Pomeranian schilling, but it will usually set you back over $100.

Until I ended up in Israel I was seriously looking into the idea of starting a collection of Jaunpur tankas (which are AFAIK nearly the only remotely affordable dated series with a remotely good coverage of the 15th century). Unfortunately the disruption of postal (and banking) connection to Russia prevented me from doing that in 2022, and the very confusing Israeli antiquities laws prevent me from doing it in 2023 (for now I'll be trying to limit my local collection to post-1700 items).
I'm hoping that some day the situation calms down enough for me to return to Russia. Hopefully those tankas would still be affordable by then...

Sorry for my delay in posting this. Here is a Pfenning from the Duchy of Styria that is dated (14)56 AD. It was minted at Graz and I have attributed it as Levinson IV-2 and Szego 2L20.

Yes nice ones @ed! Despite the uncertainty of timing, I still think that it is worth posting this French Gros de Roi which was issued by King Charles VII and minted at Montpellier. It is from the second emission, which either occurred on June 16, 1455 or started on that date. As I recall, we had a pretty robust discussion of French emissions and their timing in a prior HFCWG thread.
