A poem about notgeld, I just wrote.
Hopefully it explains a bit about them and I hope you enjoy it:

'The economy suffered because of the war.
Germans were punished with treaties in law.
No silver left, no coins to spend,
It's why paper money became the trend.
At first the designs were basic and plain,
The required economics with a positive gain.
They quickly turned to nice notes in sets,
A bandwagon made, not dealing with the debts.
These colourful notes were issued in cities,
By magistrates, councils and other committees.
With pigs and pubs and saints on show,
All topics the emergency money collectors know.
So initially it appeared, a fix for the State,
But the souvenir pieces sold at an inflated rate.
Predominantly now, with the collectors in mind,
The council coffers were soon being lined.
The inflation worsened and the face values rose,
How far will this deepen, nobody knows.
Face values in hundreds and thousands and millions,
But that's not where it stops, they even had billions!
I hope you've enjoyed my little notgeld ditty.
They never issued them in England and that's such a pity
