I have a 1974 closed am LMC penny but the fg is close to the building so what does that mean? I've looked at it a lot and the a and the m are definitely touching. Aren't these pennies supposed to have a n open am?   |

Impossible. The Close AM didn't start until 1993. (Some year varieties on the 1992 are reported because the used the new design early) It is a Wide AM. It would be hard to have one 12 years before they thought of them? If it is a Close AM, it would have to be grafted one from a Zinc cent onto a copper cent. (This would affect the weight of your coin) So if yours is a 3.11 grams, then it is normal. Edited by coop

It's not impossible. You can see where the am is closed. It weighed 3.0 grams where can I show you a video of this coin to prove it to you?

 I can't post better photos right now I don't have the equipment to do so but I can see this through my loupe I guess nobody's going to believe then. I dont know what to do with it then. I'll just hang on to it. It's a really pretty penny. |

My phone an LG stylo 5 that's all I got right now I ordered a coin microscope from ebay but it coming from China and it's taking a long time to get here but I swear those letters are absolutely touching and I don't know what to do with it to prove its legit. I know I got to get it graded but I don't know how to do that. |

Touching is not the point on the Wide and close AMs. The location of the 'M' on America is the deal maker/breaker. On the Wide AM, the location is centered between the 'A' and 'E'. On the Close AM, the 'M' Is off center to the left.  So if there is die wear present, these can be touching. If there is die polishing present, it can make them look father apart. But the key point is: Centered? Centered is normal for that year. On the close 'AM' the 'M' is off to the left. (regardless whether it is touching or not. They RDV-006 us the Wide AM, the RDV-007 is the Close AM. Your coin has the RDV-004 reverse: http://www.varietyvista.com/01b%20L...arieties.htmSo it can't be a Close AM. More is involved on the designs, than the location of the 'AME'. The size/style of the designers initials are different on the different RDVs.
