Oh P.S. the bloke whom supposedly found the nugget on his property tried to sell said property claiming there was more gold on it I think this was the motif behind his fraud. regards Harry

Welcome home Harry. Sorry to hear you didn't do all that well this trip, but I'm sure you enjoyed yourself nonetheless.....and there's always the next trip to look forward to. I haven't done much toward adding to my little stash either. Decided some time back to start a gold type set, and have been channeling most of my collecting budget in that direction. It's far from complete, but I've been able to get three of the one dollar coins (type 1, 2, and 3) two quarter eagles (Liberty and Indian) two half eagles (Liberty and Indian) and two eagles (Liberty and Indian). Still need to get one three dollar coin, and two double eagles (Liberty and St. Guadens) to complete my set, but they're kind of expensive right now - especially with he price of gold being where it is - most likely have to wait for quite a spell for them, but I'll get there someday.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the story. Holabird would try to claim it was found in CA, but consider that he's biased, since he stands to make a commission on it. Motive on his part and the "finder's" part is pretty obvious.
I'm glad someone sleuthed things out and nailed the culprits.

Good to hear from you Rusty yes better luck next time I hope ,sounds like you have an impressive collection of coins now good for you mate, gold prices for gold coins are a bit to excessive for me at the moment so I'll settle for what comes out of the ground if any. Biggfredd gold nuggets are like a finger print once there been documented so that attempted fraud did surprised me. before I post the photo's of the trip I thought you may like to see this gold plated AK47 found in Iraq, this was in the war memorial museum in Canberra. very interesting find O.K. now where to start what about this I needed to try to find a edge with the detector that is to drive it harder to find more gold or deeper / smaller gold so I booked in for some lessons in improving my detecting skills,I was there at the Coiltek an hour before the lessons started and run into a bloke named Allan whom was cleaning 6oz of gold from the W.A. gold fields and allowed me to take this photo of his gold,I believe this only took him 14 day to detect (It's in the gold pan to wash the acid off the gold). Talk about inspiration WOW Well the lesson followed not long after with a bloke named Wolf the instructor and five very eager detectorist (3 GPX5000 2 blokes were sharing one detector and an older SD2200 ) this photo is of the group standing around the SD22000 and they have GPX5000's . anyway I have a better understanding of how the GPX5000 works but still didn't find all that much gold Next are the photo's of the gold from the trip with the first two nuggets a 5gr and a 4gr and a few tiny ones found by another Allan. Well I'm just about bushed so I'll add more photo's tomorrow, this will be of the rest of the gold that was found on this trip. don't forget to swing low and slow and the most important thing is to be safe. regards Harry

Our distributor puts on dealer hunt/dinner events. They told us about a hunt in an area rumored to have buried gold in addition to the salted stuff.
Hunters were using the latest/greatest machines, but one old guy was blowing everyone else away using a 20 year old machine.
After 20 years practice on the same machine, he'd find stuff that everyone else missed.

Next year it will be 30 years for me in detecting but unlike the bloke that had his machine for 20 years I trade mine in for the next model and have to learn all over again also the SD2200 was one of the best deep gold nugget finders here in Australia and just the last three releases are the machines that come anywhere near it. Just a few more photo's of the trip, this monument I found in the home of "The Welcome Stranger"a little bit of Aussie history. Ronny with his dog Nugget standing guard over a hole I just dug. Just a bit more gold this will have to do for a while so don't forget to sing low and slow and be safe P.S. at the time I was writing this P.S. the hits on this thread have reached 17000

The Snake that chased me A short but true story My son and I were working a section of sluicing ground called "The Common",we had the sluice set up (as seen in previous photo's) and was extracting about 1/2oz per tonne, half way through the day I would empty the riffles on the sluice and take the concentrate down to the creek to wash. As I was walking toward the creek my son said Dad there's a snake chasing you so I stopped in my tracks turned and looked and there about 10 to 12 feet away from me was a small red bellied black snake hot on my heels (normally these snakes don't chase you so this was a surprise) so when I had stopped it also had stopped and was looking up at me,I remember when I was a kid and throwing stones at bigger red bellies so I did the same with this and it took off never to be seen again by us on that trip. Just one more thing to be looking for when your in the bush detecting. so don't forget to swing low and slow and be safe

That's amazing that someone can find gold nuggets like that now days. Does that type of gold sell for a lot of money even though it appears raw to me? I really don't know much about it.

G'Day Gil dealers give me gold price that is say $1640 American dollars or what ever the gold price is at the time converted to Aussie dollars less 20% this is for the impurities of the gold straight out of the ground and the truth is I don't mined mate as it's tax free pocket money.

That's even better if it's tax free. Good luck in your hunts and may you find a nugget as big as your fist. Haha.
