Okay so for the past few days every Bank I've been to in the area that I've been in working have told me that I must have an account with them to be able to exchange money. Has anyone else run into that recently? Is that a new regulation? I hope everyone is having a good look as I am. I'm still finding some silver 40% and 90% in the rolls that I've been going through recently, when I can find them that is.

I believe without an account most banks limit a customer to exchanging $20 or less.

Banking without an account is a slap in the face to banks! Not that it can't be done though. Keep on keeping on...just a couple years ago I could order boxes of coin, as a no-account. If all else fails, join with credit unions, no fee and you're part owner.

There is no regulation on it that I'm aware of. But most banks have that policy. Since it costs them money to provide the service, they want to provide it for their members.

In my area, a couple mainstream banks require an account, the others do not. I keep my roll purchases 'reasonable' in number per visit, so I can often fly under the radar. If I waltz in and demand hundreds of rolls or several boxes at a clip, I'm toast. It's a balancing act. I have cordial relationships with a few tellers at various banks, and that helps--even at banks which require accounts for coin services.

CRH is a burden on the banks so they can impose any rules they want.

Yes I understand the burden fur the banks. And I'm only purchasing $50-$100 once a week.....well trying to lol.....but what gets me is one branch of a particular bank serves me with no issues no questions.....another in the same town tells me I must have an account to exchange money with their bank.....go figure lol

Yep, branches can make their own rules. One branch of Comerica that I dealt with refused deposits of coins with obvious bullion or collector value. Another branch of the same accepted silver coin and held them for customers that asked for silver.

I'm a bit late to this thread. I usually get no issue trying to get $20 In change from any bank.
However, that is commonly used in commerce coins and not all pennies. Half Dollar and dollar coins are another animal.
However I think if you stick to the same banks once a week without an account and just do $20 most will be successes and they will get used to you coming for a roll of quarter a roll of dimes, 2 rolls nickels and 2 rolls pennies or whatever you do and build a relationship this way. Some you might have to do once a month for a while.
You don't have an account, you aren't a customer of theirs. They will try to be helpful if they want to, but they don't have to.
As time passes, smiles, how are you, yada yada. Then ask if they happen to have some halves or dollars or whatever.
I have a bank like this for half's and dollars. They don't order or stock, but people turn them in and they build up. I was stopping in to get 2 rolls of quarters for a while every 2 weeks and got friendly, and one day asked if they had any halves or dollar coins and I got 3 rolls worth. Now when I go there they just set them aside for me.
They don't want to send them back or even really take them but if I take them and they never have to see them again then they are more likely to take them from customers and they know exactly where they can get rid of them so they aren't building up in the vault or constantly needing to be counted out if left on the tills until there's just too many.
Without an account, stay regular and build a relationship and then in time open the door to getting halves or dollars. They are a burden on the bank anyways if you won't bring them back to them they will be happy to see you.... but that won't get you usually rolls or boxes, just odds and ends people turn in day to day.
If you are getting rolls then it's probably someone else's dump bank.
