I found this novelty button with a button in it. It appears to be a French figure head. Date on coin: 1803.
I'm tempted to crack it open but before I do, I'd love your feedback.

Hello and

It's definitely not a genuine coin. Most likely produced to be used as a button.

The design and style is quite unlike any French coins of the period. Also, France was using the Revolutionary Calendar at that time, using a different system of dating. No genuine French coins bear the date '1803'.

I suppose it could be meant to (vaguely) look like a Gold Napoleon, like this one: 20 francs Napoleon

Your 1803 coin is a fantasy. But the French are good at defacing and manipulating real coins, just like we do with Buffalo nickels to make conchos and hobo nickels. Here's a real French 5F that got turned into a pinback.
