Hello all,

I just have a questions about the value of the 1871 Indian head proof. Why is it that it is worth about $300-$400 as opposed to the value of a MS which is about $800?

Thanks

Basic answer - as collector coins, more proofs were saved than mint-state regular strikes.

Yep, the 1885 and 1886 V nickles are another good example of MS being more expensive than the Proofs
