The first Legal Tender $2 notes were authorized for issue on February 25, 1862 and carry a portrait of Alexander Hamilton. sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 10/14/2020 07:49 am I know that $2 denominations (in this case $2 banknotes) have never been popular in America, but they are popular in the rest of the World. Other examples are 2 Cents and 20 Cents, but the $20 banknote and Double Eagle seem to have escaped this rejection. I have yet to acquire and example of a 2 Cents and a Double Dime in my collection.
