Hello all! Here's another ancient coin that has stumped me. I don't know much about these kinds of coins, but I am trying to learn. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Probus...Something like this... obverse..IMP C M AVR PROBVS AVG reverse..VIRTVS PROBI AVG, emperor on horseback, galloping right, holding spear, captive kneeling left before the horse, arms outstretched.
Thanks @Palouche! The reverse has some gunk on it, but I'm glad you could determine what it says. Do you have any of the denomination, grade, or possible value (if the gunk was removed)?
One of my first purchases a long time ago The Sear description was simply Billon Antoninianus Emperor Probus Rv Emperor on horseback slaying barbarian Not a common type but not extremely rare either Yours is a bit corroded and any conservation would be of limited help to it It might fetch $10 on ebay but not very much more Good coin to start your new Probus collection around
