I saw a post on a Facebook discussion page today announcing another round of counterfeit toonies. It appears that these ones mimic the new security features and do not have a camel toe. The most obvious indicator is that the numeral 2 has been replaced with a $ sign and the inscription on the reverse is Canada / Canada. If these have been produced in large quantities unlike the Walrus $2, I hope the RCMP and the RCM take extraordinary measures to stop these operations and introduce a more secure coin, perhaps one with a polymer ring like the German 5 Euro. I also pulled a 2005 and 2006 from change on the weekend so the CTTs are still out there in circulation. https://www.sootoday.com/local-news...arie-6933622

Whole new queen's portrait as well, and placement different as well on centering of the portait to the outside rim.

This would certainly appear to be a new variety of counterfeit toonie. Without more reports, I suspect that this one will be limited geographically and in terms of quantity, just like the Z Dollard coins from Hawkesbury, ON. Someone probably spent a handful of the things and they were picked out quickly. The Camel Toe toonies continue to be a major problem with coins being found across a wide geographic area and they are plentiful. Be sure to check out CamelToeToonies.ca for more information.

Tomorrow I'll drop by a particular BMO branch in Toronto, where the percentage of CTT was pretty high.

There was a report yesterday that some one had found one of these here in the Soo.

Are these counterfeits being removed through the ARP?

It's hard to say if any fakes are. I've opened boxes of coins post-ARP and found fakes in there (not the new Soo variety - Camel Toes). It's too early to say much of anything about the Soo variety.

OK so I had 4 rolls of toonies I got from Sudbury back in June, just went through them and found 12 camel toes.
? what do you do with your extra camel toes 1/ put back into circulation 2/ give them to the bank and hope you get your money 3/ keep them all, (12 is a lot to keep)

I would say you're stuck with them as the other options are technically illegal, I've kept the 4 that I have come across. You are right that 12 is a lot tho.

@Proof Nut - A very interesting article to read. Wonder if there will be any follow-up? 26,500 counterfeit $2 coins held by one person, of course he wasn't going to sell or distribute them. A Scroodge McDuck want-to-be.
