The coins confiscated are the 2012 shown above in an image from May by Proof Nut. Andrew McIntosh (Investigative Reporter) has informed me that his research has shown that the article from Quebec was mistaken showing the Camel Toe Toonie. It is actually a new generation of fakes from China. All dated 2012 as Proof Nut's image shows. Here we go again!

Read a news story this morning where a guy in Quebec was arrested for importing 26,000 fake toonies from China. while doing their investigation, they discovered that he had previously brought in 2 other shipments of 11,000 and 13,000 in the past year.

More to the story with video & pics of new security versions. If all of the 12k that was confiscated are in fact the more 'secure' ones this will make the 2012 and perhaps other newer dates suspect.

No one orders replica coinage especially current circulating ones a a 'gift' or for their collection at a tiny fraction of what it costs the RCM to produce them. Even with the delivery fee the recipient still stands to profit $1.94 for every coin successfully distributed.

How is this any different than the Nazis counterfeiting British 1 Pound notes during WWII with the sole purpose of destabilizing their economy?

This guy needs to be locked up for 14+ years and sadly he is likely only one of hundreds if not thousands of ignorant, selfish and greedy individuals who are trying their luck and hoping to get rich.

I'd bet that these guys (counterfeiters) are passing under the radar, with $ amounts too small to investigate. Here in the USA, buddies of mine in the Treasury Dept. have to pass on anything under $250,000, as they have many bigger fish to catch ...just not enough agents & way too many crooks ... sad ...

Unlikely due to their EM signature and most likely rejected leaving them to be passed on through banks or bill changers.

The fakes are still getting attention with mentions in coin club newsletters, numismatic publications and even on James Downham's YouTube channel.

Counterfeit toonies can still be found easily in circulation. Until that changes, they should continue to receive as much publicity as possible, both within numismatic circles and especially in the general media.

Please do your part by talking about counterfeit toonies and sharing the link to CamelToeToonies.ca.
