malibu- rather nice one. I must agree that it would get a net grade of VF due to the hits. This really is a nice series, and it does seem rather overlooked.

Here is a silver 5 cent and a V nickel in UN+ shape that I have. I have had some vary nice offers on the 53 nickel with trails also.

I don't know if I would call this my most expensive. Not to be it wasn't, but it may have some value. I have heard of one other like it in a museum in Canada, but have not found its sister yet!

I guess mine would be the Canadian 1922 1 cent, graded at Fine+ (the scratches are on the plastic, not the coin ). Different guides gave me different prices, but since the average was $20 and I paid $1, . I'm still waiting until I decide what I want to stick to/specialize in, so I'm not spending much yet.

I picked this up at the Montreal Stamp and Coin Auction on Sunday. It's an ICCS graded MS-64 1902 Canada five cent, Large H, cost $84.38 (incl fees and taxes) and is worth $175 in Trends. It has lots of lustre and nice light brown toning around the edges. This is by far the nicest Cdn in my collection! I wish I could do better with the images, these ones took me 2 hours of fiddling with camera settings to get:

malibu- nice coin! It is just me or do most Canadian dimes and Half Dimes that have the image of Ed VII always seem to have a weakly struck head?

Here's a 1948 50c in ICCS plastic (hence the poor photo). Low mintage of 37,784. Grades at MS62.

Archraz: yes I was surprised at the weak strike and if this coin wasn't ICCS graded I would have assumed it had some circulation wear and graded it AU-50. Charlton's grading guide (1988) states there must be "8 pearls clear and distinct" and the ear and side whiskers all show sharp detail. Well this coin has none of the above!

I guess this is a lesson in grading; the size of the coin, the technology available, the wear on the die and possibly the mint location (in this case the Heaton mint in England) may all have had an effect on the quality. The Cdn silver 5 cents was so small that I suspect the mint could not reproduce tiny details on that scale in those years. The maple leaves on the reverse also appear worn as some of the veins are not clear. Look at WWhitman's Cdn 1908 10 cents also on this page and note there is far more detail!

Kurt S: wow, nice pics, nice coin! Trends has it at $375. Can I ask what did you pay for it and can you give us some camera tricks?

1871 PEI 1 Cent ICCS SP-60: Trends at around $1000

If you consider that PEI wasn't exactly part of Canada at the time, then my most expensive is my 1953 NSF Mule nickel (ICCS EF-40) or 1908 SP-63 dime.

Nice coins all!

I have 1921 5 cent that was bought, a few years ago. I really like the 1908 that WWhitman has . Nice historic piece, commemorative of mint opening.Very cool piece.

Those 1908 Specimens are always very nice. I am so jealous that you have a 1921 5 Cents! Do you mind showing some photos?

cheers,

Andrew
