Hello everyone new here. I was digging through my grandpas attic and found a bunch of coins. Was wondering if you all could help me out with some values. and which direction should I take with this collection.

Collection includes:

about 150 sealed coins and about 30 loose

American dollars 1890,1974,77,72
Canadian dollar 1864,(goose)1867-1967, 1959,1965
Canadian 50 cent coins (there are many!) 1937,1938,1946 and lots more
American half-dollar 1939
Newfoundland 50 cent 1900,1908
Canadian 1 cent 1914, 1936
and lots of nickles and quarters I thought the above was the coolest!

1988 Olympic collection, with authenticity. Also have 88 gold $100 coin

A good place to check prices is the charlton catalogue, get one from the library. Otherwise, colonialacres.com has decent pricing you could compare with. Some of the things (like the 1967 set) aren't worth as much as you think - most of the value comes from teh silver content (at about $14 per $1 face value).

I agree with Rodime about getting your hands on a Charlton catalogue or a recent copy of Canadian Coin News, which has the latest "Trends" for Canadian coins. Since they don't publish every denomination or type in each edition, you may need 2 consecutive editions of the paper. You may have some scarce varieties in the 50 cent pieces .. try to get your hands on the 61st Edition(2006?) of Charlton which has the 50 Cent variety section in the back. With silver almost $25US per ounce and each circulating dollar or dollar total containing .6 oz of silver ... or nearing $15 scrap silver per dollar.... you'll get a rough idea as to the least amount you could get (a dealer will give you between 90-95% of scrap). Any very high grade or scarce variety could mean many times more. I have no idea about the paper.

which direction should I take with this collection

The first thing you should do is learn all you can about what you have and the values and how to grade these things. By learning these things it will help you next time you encounter any collectible coins and paper money. You'll have some experience and knowledge which is half of the hobby.
Then you will know what direction to take.
I think you found a very nice stash there. Some of those I have or have had myself at one time or another.
Congrats! and welcome to CCF!
