If you plan on sending the set in to TPG do not open your package.

Quote: She made it! Wow! Congrats, that was fast! That set is lovely! Nice pics, jbuck. As usual, looks better in real photos than the Mint's stock images. I'm even more excited now. ETA is Monday for me, and the last two days of tracking have just said "In transit," so we'll see if it can get here by tomorrow. Quote: The proof dollar and medal set are now on backorder. I doubt they will be able to make anymore. Back order status just means that the Mint's on-hand stock has been depleted, but they are making more and are still available to order. It's not surprising given the pandemic and coin shortage.

Quote: ? when they say 10k is the product limited, don't that mean that all going to be made. just learning. thanks The product limit is the max number of products that can be made, but it doesn't mean that the Mint will produce that many. It all depends on things like sales and manufacturing capacity. If the Mint thinks the product will eventually sell out, they'll likely produce more units in advance to have on hand for order fulfillment. I hope I explained that correctly/clearly, but if not other members will help me out.

You're welcome, @Reno32! I received my coin and medal set yesterday! It's a beauty, especially the reverse of the dollar. I also like the relief of the medal on the obverse. It appears to be standard but it really gives the appearance that the arms are holding up the rock. And I still can't believe it got here so fast. I sure hope the Mint sticks with USPS.

Yes, of course you can get a coin graded by any TPG once it has been removed from US Mint packaging. However, if you want one of the various first/early/etc. special labels, then you might not want to open the package as the unopened post marked package can indicate whether or not the coin(s) are eligible for the special label.

Thanks for your reply,i should have ask question before I ever open any of them, but I guess I'll just see do I have any 70's laying around.

Congrats on those who got the set.
I was considering getting it but I decided to pass. Partly because I liked some elements of the design but not all of it. It seems the US Mint would do better with sales IF they showed a photo of the actual product. The medal is far stronger than the silver dollar though the silver dollar has some good aspects of it. The medal is just more original and forceful in its presentation.
For now though, whatever medal I get I will get something under $100 from Medallic Arts of New York products - they made some beautiful stuff and it remains affordable in contrast to older medals (especially Art Noveau and 19th century ones where the prices for many good quality ones start about $175). And, one shouldn't forget the US Mint sells many bronze medals some of which have designs superior to this - check them out. And they are all very affordable.
But again congrats on those who got it - I think you got yourself something collectible with the medal as the mintage for the US Mint is reasonable enough to promise a modest premium in the future.

Latest sales for the week ending September 6: Proof dollar: 15,754 Unc. dollar: 7,187 Dollar and medal set: 9,720 The coin and medal set is close to a sell-out after 3 weeks. Interestingly, last year's American Legion coin and medal set reached "Currently Unavailable" status after 6 weeks and similar sales.
