Let's see ... I bought an old White's detector for $20 at a yard sale. So far I've found four dimes and a bunch of cents, so at the rate I'm going ... it will pay for itself in about 25 years, although I have a little trouble imagining myself coinshooting from a wheelchair!

Oh, wait - if I figure in the value of aluminum cans and nails and other iron ... yeah, about 24 years.

I paid each of mine off fairly quickly.

Currently I have a Whites DFX.

This year alone: Over $500 in junk coins.
Plus 3 gold rings, one platinum (my second, ever) and 5 silver rings.

That doesn't count other gold: 1 chain, three earings.
Silver: Bracelet, and coins.

So, if you work at it, it will be worth dong it.

I have 2 that I use. I paid them both off in 14 months. First one was about 5 months. I also put in alot of hours. Here lately I haven't been too much on it. That time of the year too much to do. I have found a good share of gold and silver rings, bracelets, charms, etc. It is out there to be found. Good luck in your adventures.

Well 2 days ago I ordered a ACE 250, I cant wait for it to get here, I learned that my step father lost his dads gold and ruby class ring at the beach. mabey I can find it. I am also thinking of the 10 x 14 DD coil for it, what do you think?

The standard coil gives you a better shot at gold. My wife and I both have 250's I use the larger coil and she uses the standard coil. On the whole she finds more gold rings than me and I find more gold chains/bracelets than her.

Nope in fact makes it harder to use the pinpoint function. The standard ACE250 is about the best bang for your buck in Metal detecting. Just my 2 Cents worth

You might find a gold chain or a gold ring. The secret is to dig every target. After digging up hundreds of pull tabs most people just discriminate out the pull tab area which also discriminates part of the gold range. The bigger coil will go deeper but seems less sensitive on shallow targets. Keep in mind the standard coil is the one designed specifically for the unit. The large coil is an addition brought out by Garrett to allow you to find deeper targets. As with all modifications when you gain something you loose something. From experience I can sweep an area with the large coil and think I have everything then my wife can come in behind me and find stuff my coil missed. She however has problems pinpointing targets more then about 5 inches where as I don't

My detector paid for its self years ago , over time my finds far exceed the the amount I paid for my whites eagle spectrum about 15 or 16 years ago .

This year alone I have 8 ounces of silver mixed sterling and .900 in jewelry and coins.

a couple of small gold earrings and 1 gold ring .

about 90.00 in junk change and a few relics which may bring a few dollars if I decide to sell them , some old toy cars and stuff like that .

I agree with nohope dig all signals if you pass on the zinc cents you may also be passing on some gold Items .
